Cancer Esophagus
Cancer esophagus, though easy to diagnose, is often detected late after metastasis has supervened. With early diagnosis and appropriate management, the results are often satisfactory. Surgical management requires long experience with a specialist. The advent of chemoradiotherapy, when appropriately used, has improved survival rate. Complications like anastomotic disruptions and consequent leakages are not uncommon with inexperienced hands and can lead to significant morbidity and occasionally even mortality. This compilation refers to an overall review of esophageal cancer, which includes a historical overview, epidemiology and the nuances of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches
