This new edition, the seventeenth, has been thoroughly revised and thoughtfully remodelled. In doing so the author has adopted a novel method to present the theoretical and practical subject matters, stipulated in ER 91 of PCI, separately to help the teachers to treat the whole course, in theory and practical classes, in two independent individual parts, and in such a way that topics follow each other conveniently in an easy-to-grasp mode. This new pedagogic approach of the author in this textbook of pharmacognosy for the students of Diploma Course deals with the theoretical course in a well-defined separate part (Section 1) for lectures, while the practical course is given in a meticulously organized separate part (Section 2), and is deemed to be conducted directly in the practical classes in the laboratory. Qadry is a well-known researcher, author and scholar in the field of pharmaceutical research and education and enjoys the distinction of being the first author to write a book on pharmacy in India, way back in 1969, He has been associated with a number of universities and institutions in different capacities as teacher, researcher and specialist in India and abroad, where he pioneered the subject as head of the department, as Principal, as Dean, as Director, as Vice-Chancellor, as Special Adviser and what not. He also acted as President of Pharmacy Council of India besides holding other prestigious positions and offices in the country. As a successful and popular author of as many as eight books to date on pharmacy subjects, he received wide acclaim as educator, and more than fulfilled, through his writings and personal interaction, the aspirations and expectations of scholars, teachers and students thirsting for authentic and up-to-date knowledge.
