Clinical Biochemistry Questions and Answers
Clinical Biochemistry Questions and Answers Biochemistry is a difficult subject where even the postgraduate students find it difficult to correlate the biochemical changes that occur in human body in the state of health and disease. This book aims to present selected crucial concepts of biochemistry in a lucid, mathematical and compact way with suitable illustrations. The topics have been chosen keeping in mind the need of a medical student to understand biochemistry at clinical level. The aim is to help students digest and assimilate the actual biochemical phenomena as they occur in human body in health and disease, rather than remembering cycles and facts from textbooks. A brilliant mind is that which seeks answers to the unknown. The book, written in question and answer format, is in no way meant to be a substitute for regular textbooks on the subject but is only meant to be a companion to the students who want to critically understand and revise the matter to be able to apply a similar approach to learning whole biochemistry and answer with confidence and reasoning the difficult questions based on biochemistry asked in various PG entrance examinations. Veena Singh Ghalaut MBBS.MD is Senior Professor and Head, Department of Biochemistry, Pt BD Sharma PGIMS, Rohtak (Haryana). She completed her MBBS from JN Medical College, Raipur, and MD (Biochemistry) from Pt BD Sharma PGIMS. Rohtak, in 1982. For the past 36 years she has been teaching undergraduate students and has guided more than 50 MD candidates. Her lucid and mathematical way of teaching has always been admired by her students and her colleagues as well. Her penchant for reasoning and seeking ‘biochemical basis and mechanisms’ of almost everything ranging from clinical signs and symptoms to treatment of diseases has inspired many generations of undergraduate and postgraduate students not only to excel in the field of biochemistry but also to become confident doctors. Both her qualities are reflected in this book throughout the text. She has been an avid researcher with more than 100 national and international publications to her credit. For many years she has been an external examiner in many universities, a subject expert, member of curriculum committee for MCI and many public service commissions. AshumaSachdeva MBBS.MD is Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Pt BD Sharma PGIMS. She completed her MBBS and MD (Biochemistry) in 2003, both from Pt BD Sharma PGIMS, Rohtak, and has been involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching for the past 11 years. Piyush Bansal MBBS.MD.DNB is Assistant Professor. ESI Medical College, Mandi (HP). He completed his MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, and MD and DNB (Biochemistry) from PGIMS, Rohtak, in 2012.
