Textbook of Medicinal Chemistry
Textbook of Medicinal Chemistry is based on the core module of pharmacy syllabi of various technical universities and targets undergraduate and postgraduate students across India. It is based upon the latest developments in the field of medicinal chemistry, detailed synthesis mechanism of drugs and their mode of action inside the body. This book treats many aspects of organic medicinal compounds; their discovery, action, and development into clinical agents. All the principles discussed in the book are based on fundamental organic chemistry, physical chemistry and biochemistry. Medicinal chemistry plays a key role in pharmaceutical research and new drug discovery; the structural modification may help in increasing the potency of desired active and/or to decrease the intensity of adverse effects. This book attempts to present a review of basic principles of medicinal chemistry and to explain the effects of structural modification of the lead nucleus on the selectivity of action, duration of action and frequency of adverse effect. An effort has been made to stress upon basic pharmacology in detail wherever needed. Malleshappa N Noolvi MPharm, PhD is currently Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Shree Dhanvantary Pharmacy College, Surat, Gujarat. He received his PhD in 2006 from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka, and has 14 years of experience in teaching and scientific research and development. He has to his credit more than 30 scientific publications and review articles in international journals. His major field of research interest involves working in the field of QSAR, docking study, synthesis of newer anticancer agents and analytical method development to provide improved selectivity and sensitivity for quantitative analysis of drugs in biological samples and pharmaceuticals. He is well recognised teacher in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry and is known for his innovation in teaching. Anurekha Jain MPharm, PhD is currently associated with BR Nahata College of Pharmacy, Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh. She has an outstanding industrial and academic experience. Her key research interest involves working in the field of QSAR, synthesis of newer antihypertensive agents and analytical method development to provide improved selectivity and sensitivity for quantitative analysis of drugs in biological samples and pharmaceuticals. She has about 100 research publications, published 2 books and has 2 patents. She has been working as a coordinator for AICTE institutional work, IQAC cell (NAAC) and NBA inspection, and project application for private and deemed university. Harun M Patel MPharm, PhD is presently associated with Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, RC Patel Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Shirpur (Dhule), Maharashtra. He has 30 publications in reputed peer reviewed international journals. His major field of research interest involves working in the field of QSAR, docking study, virtual screening, synthesis of newer anticancer, antitubercular and antiepileptic drugs.
